Milligan
Dorset Council has appointed Willmott Dixon Developments and Milligan as regeneration partners to help shape the next chapter for Weymouth. The partnership will support the Council’s ambition to create new homes, jobs, cultural opportunities and stronger connections across the town centre and waterfront.
The programme is focused on unlocking the potential of Weymouth’s town centre and harbourside, while protecting the heritage, character and identity that make the town distinctive. Key opportunities include Weymouth Peninsula, North Quay, Weymouth Bowl, Western Marina, and wider town centre improvements.
Willmott Dixon Developments and Milligan will work with Dorset Council to develop a commercial masterplan and strategic business case, supported by feasibility reviews, market research and soft market testing. This will help identify priority sites, attract inward investment and create a deliverable route forward for regeneration.
Shaping a coastal destination
The vision for Weymouth is about more than individual development sites. It is about creating a thriving coastal destination where residents, visitors and businesses benefit from better public spaces, stronger connections, new homes and improved places to spend time.
The partnership will build on Weymouth’s waterfront setting, heritage and strong sense of community, helping to create proposals that balance commercial opportunity with local identity. Public engagement will give residents and businesses the opportunity to help shape the emerging plans.
Creating a route to investment
The programme brings together a number of major town centre and waterfront opportunities, including leisure-led development at Weymouth Peninsula, with proposals for a cultural hub and hotel, mixed-use development at North Quay and Weymouth Bowl, residential and commercial opportunities at West Marina, and potential food and beverage space near New Bond Street facing the marina.
Alongside this, the partnership is engaging with a range of public sector stakeholders to understand wider opportunities across the town. This includes masterplanning work around the College site, exploring the potential for a higher education presence, and discussions with organisations including DWP, Probation and the Ministry of Justice to identify how public sector needs can be aligned with Weymouth’s wider regeneration ambitions.
By combining development expertise, placemaking and commercial strategy, the partnership will help Dorset Council test what is viable, prioritise opportunities and create a clear route from ambition to delivery.
